Meet Silvia Dee & the Boyfriend
Silvia Dee & the Boyfriend are a husband-and-wife duo serving up a roots-driven blend of blues, rock, swing, choice covers and original music, with a side order of Mardi Gras spice.
Silvia Dee brings soulful vocals, keyboards and accordion, while Rob Deyman (aka the Boyfriend) adds rich harmonies and a classic array of left-handed electric, resonator and acoustic guitars, mandolin and banjo. Together, they create a distinctive sound that’s full of character and musical surprises.
From blues and rootsy grooves to contemporary favourites, Latin serenades and Cajun-inspired rhythms, their repertoire keeps audiences listening, singing along and dancing. Silvia’s accordion adds extra spice, whether she’s taking the music on a lively walkabout through the audience or kicking the party up a notch.
Based in Waterloo, Ontario, the duo have performed across Ontario and travelled from Winnipeg and Vancouver to Nova Scotia and PEI through VIA Rail’s Artists on Board program, booking tour dates along the way. Festival appearances include the Kitchener Blues Festival, Southside Shuffle, Lighthouse Blues Festival, Canal Bank Shuffle, West Coast Blues, Orangeville Blues and Jazz, and many other festivals and community events, including Waterloo Region’s much-loved Porch Party Festivals.
At the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, representing the Grand River Blues Society, one judge summed up their appeal perfectly: “you are the first duo to get people up on the dance floor!”
