Waterstreet delivers a rockin’ blues groove and a side order of Lousiana spice. You’ll dance!

ABOUT US: The waterstreet blues band delivers original modern blues with a rockin' party groove. They add in a little swing and a side order of cajun spice to serve up their unique blend of blues music.  Rob Deyman rocks electric blues guitar and adds a mellow jazzy groove or rootsy growl on his National steel tritone. On rock-solid bass, Paul Sapounzi delivers killer vocals that drive high energy band performances. Silvia Dee brings on keys, vocals and a bluesy accordion edge; together they form the heart of the band.  Over the years they have developed close collaborations with musical friends - mixing in highly talented drummers, harp players and additional guests to amplify the waterstreet experience.

ORIGINAL MUSIC: Together they perform their book of original "blues songs with a twist" featured on their first album “Another Life” and upcoming new album scheduled for release in 2019. They also offer up unique takes of their favourite artists rooted in the blues.  Their music blends personal stories with universal themes, creating an accessible style for diverse audiences who say the “didn’t know they liked the blues” until they heard waterstreet.

LIVE PERFORMANCES: As a trio, 4 or 5-piece group, the waterstreet blues band performs at festivals, clubs and theatres across Central and Southern Ontario including FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton. The band is active with festival appearances - including the Kitchener Blues Festival, West Coast Blues Festival, Southside Shuffle, Lighthouse Blues Festival, Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival, Uptown Waterloo Jazz Festival, Canal Bank Shuffle, Guelph Rib Fest and more.

The waterstreet blues band recently appeared as the feature act for the official “blues night” in Thorold during the Niagara Music Awards Week in 2018. Two members (Rob & Silvia) were selected to represent the Grand River Blues Society in the solo/duo category at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2017.  They made several appearances on CTV’s Good Morning Canada national program performing their original music.  The band has opened for Randy Bachman, Rik Emmett, Duke Robillard, Downchild Blues Band, Powder Blues, Garrett Mason and members have appeared on stage with Mel Brown, Maria Muldaur, Delta Moon, Marcia Ball, Alysha Brilla, Big Dave McLean and Lil Ed and Blues Imperials.

THE PLAYERS: Rob Deyman plays blues-tinged electric guitar, brings jazz inspiration to original songs and a fresh take on roots based music with his National steel. He started in the Winnipeg/Manitoba Folk/Blues scene performing at clubs, coffee houses, tours and festivals including two appearances at the Winnipeg Folk Festival playing jug band, bluegrass and country blues in the Cast Iron Potty Band.  His band often played with western Canadian blues legends Big Dave McLean and Gord Kidder and shared bills with folk/comedy legends Fred Penner and Al Simmons as well as Loreena McKennitt. Rob’s Influences range from T-Bone Walker, Memphis Jug Band, Mel Brown, Freddie and BB King. Rob was the catalyst for the formation of waterstreet and provides soulful musical direction for the band.

Paul Sapounzi holds down the band groove, creates a melodic foundation for original music, all while giving the audience a high energy vocal performance. Paul is a big British blues and rock fan who started playing bass in high school with his band the Shooz. Paul’s vocals are a cross between the urban blues of Colin James and the melody and rawness of early McCartney. Far and away the best sense of humour on the stage, he regularly shares his talent for fun with the audience.

Silvia Dee delivers killer keyboard, a unique accordion blues performance and soulful vocals. She fuses blues, jazz and latin styles and has been playing music all her life. She is inspired by Marcia Ball, Queen Ida, Billie Holiday, Colin James, Nina Simone, Dr. John, Diana Krall and Johnnie Johnson to name a few. When she rocks the accordion the audience is always groovin’!  Silvia delivers emotionally rich vocals as she presents her own songs and unique adaptations of blues artists from the past and present.
